Who is Dave Canterbury?

David Michael Canterbury is a self-taught and self-sufficient Survival Expert who participated in a reality television show called Dual Survival for two seasons which aired on the Discovery Channel. Dave Canterbur is also an author, publishing Bushcraft 101 in 2014, Survivability for the Common Man, and Advanced Bushchem.

He is also a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the NRA’s Law Enforcement Division. His mother died when he was only four years old and his father died when he was nine. He began hunting at age five, fishing at seven and then learned to survive in the wilderness by fourteen.

Early Life

Born in Los Angeles, California, Canterbury grew up on a farm, where he learned to hunt and fish. He began hunting at age five, fishing at seven and then learned to survive in the wilderness by fourteen.

Early Career

Canterbury served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1984. He was a paratrooper with the 2nd Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division and deployed to Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury. After leaving the Army, Canterbury worked for several years as a freelance survival instructor and wilderness guide before becoming an author.

Canterbury is a member of the National Rifle Association and the NRA’s Law Enforcement Division. He is also an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor and an NRA Certified Hunter Safety Instructor. Canterbury is a certified archery instructor by the National Archery Association as well as an avid bow hunter. Canterbury has published over 30 books, including Bushcraft 101, Survivability for the Common Man, and Advanced Bushchem. He is also the founder of Survivalist Training Institute.
